Pirate

Pirates are nomadic spacers who roam the cosmos looking for spacecraft to plunder. They are usually a member of a private party (not affiliated with any government) that engages in piracy - acts of robbery and/or criminal violence in space.

Pirates typically live aboard their starships, or operate out of a hidden hideout - asteroid base, underground colony on an unmarked planet, etc.

In the Milky Way Galaxy, the Beta Quadrant has long been a haven for Pirates and their activities, whereas the Alpha Quadrant has equally long ago purged itself from almost all of the pirate militias that once took refuge there. The Gamma and Delta Quadrants both housed and still house smaller pirate organizations, too.
