Subspace Distortion Engine

The modern Hemmoian sub-light propulsion system, the Subspace Distortion Engine is a reactionless drive which reaches through the fabric of space and clings into subspace. By manipulating and "bending" the local subspace nodes, the SSDE is able to create distortions in space/time that can be used to push and pull a ship in any given direction. It is via the manipulation of subspace that allow ships constructed by the Hemmoians to accelerate and outmaneuver many vessels of the younger species. An important byproduct of this means of propulsion is that the effect of inertia is also negated, allowing ships to accelerate, stop and maneuver at velocities that would crush a person using conventional propulsion.
