Blue straggler

Jump to navigationJump to searchA blue straggler is a star in a stellar cluster that appears hotter and bluer than other stars of similar age and mass within the same cluster. These stars defy the typical evolutionary path of stars in a cluster, as they are found on the main sequence (where stars fuse hydrogen in their cores) while other stars of similar mass have already evolved to become red giants.
