Dust clouds
From Peace Station Encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to searchEven if space is open, it is not truly empty. There
may only be one particle of matter for every cubic
meter, known as spacedust. A dust cloud region has many hundreds of thousands
times that much material... enough dust and debris
that even mighty starships can still be damaged by the smallest of
particles.
The faster a ship is going when it enters a dust
cloud, the more likely it is to take damage. As
long as the ship is moving through a dust cloud
at high speeds, it is potentially vulnerable. To counter this hazard, several types of anti-particle shielding systems have been developed, and are used in almost all modern spacecraft.
