Elmex class scouts were used by the early IHSF to scout a jump point before a bigger armada jumps in to be sure there are no nasty mass destruction traps waiting. Some colony worlds also used Elmex class ships for police vessels.

Today, the class is mostly decommissioned. The vessels of this type still in operation have been sold to third parties and are usually heavily modified.
