Falsespace
Falsespace, also known as Space-Beyond-All-Space and The Great Void, is a Bacterian term for a hitherto unknown continuum of dimensional space, well beyond the Portal Dimension. It is used by the Bacterians for FTL travel with a special, energy-intensive drive system known as the Falsespace Veil Generator.
Properties
According to standard multidimensional theory, the complexity of spacelike continuums should increase exponentially with each boundary broken. While the Portal dimension is a 12-dimensional continuum, spacelike continuums beyond Underspace should have anything from 256 to 1024 dimensions, as opposed to the common four in our space-time continuum.
While even the Portal Dimension has been described as a "Fractal Hell" due to its complicated spatial geometry, it is difficult to even begin to comprehend the complexity of the rumored Falsespace plane. As such, it should be a method of travel so unpredictable as to be completely unusable, but somehow, the Bacterians appear to have become experts at navigating this mad realm.
Folklore and mythology
Due to its innherently incomprehensible nature, there are many myths surrounding the Falsespace continuum in Bacterian folklore. It is said to be a reality of quantum insanity, where all laws of physics and rules of causality are broken down, then broken again. Many Bacterian starship captains tell stories deriving their imagery from Bacterian mythology, saying the plane is inhabited by Void Demons and other multidimensional horrors.
Some also attribute qualities of Bacterian underworld myths to Falsespace, saying it is the Great Beyond where souls of the dead travel at the end of their life for final judgement by the Gods of Bacterion. Because of this, the Great Temple is known to have actively competed with the Bacterian scientific establishment in dimensional research, with attempts to contact their ancient gods through arcane rituals combined with high-energy Falsespace Veil Generators, although today this line of research has been suppressed as too dangerous.
