The G-Wing Attack Interceptor only reached prototype status a decade before the outbreak of the H'vos War. The fighter was designed as a potent replacement for the Gigerdi Fighter 1's of the time, but unfortunately the production of the G-Wing cost alot more as when compared to the fairly simple Gigerdi Fighters. The G-Wing also had no shields, which at the time were already standard issue in starfighters. Naturally the heavy armor of the vessel tried to compensate over this deficiency, but still many pilots of the time believed that they'd still be alot more safer in a starfighter equipped with shields instead of 'really heavy armor' - history has indeed proven their doubts correct.
The G-Wing interceptors were issued to a few randomly selected cadet training outfits, who flew them on standard patrol and reconnaissance exercises. Simulated combat exercises proved the fighters somewhat flawed, and after some consideration in the higher echelons of power, the project was scrapped completely. One of the reasons for the cancellation of the project was quite propably the absence of shields from the design. Some cadets still flew these crafts during the H'vos War, but they were all completely scrapped shortly afterwards.
