Galactic void
From Peace Station Encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to searchA Galactic Void is a tremendously large, nearly-empty region of space between galactic superclusters that is entirely devoid of galaxies. These desolate regions are the largest empty zones in the Universe. They are nearly incomprehensible in their dark emptiness and will remain forever unexplored.
The Capricornus Void and Orbeus Corridor are some well known examples. The Milky Way rests in a large galactic sheet which borders the Local Void which is nearly 200 million light years across. The Local Void is not completely empty, however, as there have been tentative identifications of up to sixteen isolated galaxies within the region.
