Gas

One of the numerous phases of matter, in which atoms, molecules, or ions move freely and are not bound to each other. Gas is a compressible fluid; not only will a gas conform to the shape of its container but it will expand to fill the container.

In astronomy, it usually refers to hydrogen or helium.
