Gliese 86 is a relatively close binary system of Gliese 86 A, a yellow-orange star, and Gliese 86 B, a white dwarf. Star A has a gas giant orbiting it at a distance of 0.11 AU, completing an orbit every 15.766 days. This planet survived star B's expansion into red giant phase and eventual nova outburst. At that point, the two stars were only separated by a distance of 15 AU.

Today, they are 21 AU apart and complete an orbit around each other in 80 years.
