A Luminous Blue Variable (LBV) is a rare type of massive, luminous star characterized by its instability and dramatic changes in brightness and spectrum. These stars, also known as S Doradus variables, are among the most luminous in a galaxy. LBVs are known for their episodic eruptions, during which they can eject significant amounts of mass.
