M54
From Peace Station Encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to searchM54, also known as NGC 6715 is a globular cluster located in the Bacterian Home Galaxy, measuring 150 to 300 light years across.
It is one of the denser of the globulars, being of class III (I being densest and XII being the least dense). It has an absolute magnitude of -10.0.
As it is located in the center of the Bacterian Home Galaxy, some think it actually may be its core; however others have proposed that it is a real globular cluster that fell to the center of this galaxy due to decay of its orbit caused by dynamical friction.
Evidence has been found of an intermediate-mass black hole in the core of M54.
