1. Operator of small craft, such as shuttles and fighters. It is one of the most hazardous naval assignments, leaving the protection of a mighty starship to land on dangerous planets or fly through a hail of fire.
2. A navigator, specially knowledgeable person qualified to navigate a vessel through difficult areas of space.
