Point Blank Range

Weapons will be a lot more effective and precise at a range of zero. Most starships don't last very long in a point blank engagement unless they have a lot of shields. Also, an enemy ship can be boarded very easily at zero range. If an enemy ship has boarding parties, the shields of the attacking starship fail, and the enemy is at zero range, it is very likely that the enemy attempts to board and capture the ship.
