Population II stars

From Peace Station Encyclopedia
Jump to navigationJump to search

Relatively old stars composed of nearly pure hydrogen and helium and thus containing a smaller fraction of metals, found mainly in the halo of the Galaxy and in Globular Clusters. Also seen in the centers of spiral galaxies, in elliptical galaxies, and to a limited extent in irregular galaxies. They were formed from Population III stars. Planetary formation around these stars is rare.
