Smart-plastic armor

A unique Hemmoian application of nanotechnology that has the ability to enhance the performance of ballistic fabrics and protective armor products, introduced during the Peace Station Era.

Smart-plastics are special materials with nano-particles that exhibit properties normally associated with both solids and liquids, but are rarely found in the same material. The material is a nanotechnology that exists in a flexible, fluid-like state under normal conditions but adopts seemingly rigid qualities and becomes less penetrable when impacted.

As a result, this special material can be applied to conventional materials used in armor applications, allowing them to remain flexible under normal wear, but simultaneously becoming resistant to penetration when impacted by a spike, knife or high velocity projectile or fragment. Smart-plastic armor effectively spreads the energy over a larger area.

Further refining of this technology has resulted in self-repairing smart-plastics, which can reassemble themselves over time to repair possible projectile damage inflicted on the suit such as bullet holes.

Armor of this type is used extensively by Hemmoian security forces as well as some branches of the Clone Army.
