Space Whiskey refers to a broad category of alcoholic beverages that are distilled from fermented syntho-grain mash and aged through a process of relativistic time dilation in graviton fields. Different grains are used for different varieties on different planets.

The beverage is enjoyed in particular by Gigerdians due to its familiar, vibrant color.

Production considerations

After the base material is synthesized and distilled, the spirit is collected in magnetic suspension barrels for the next stage of the process, which is maturation. By interstellar law, Space Whiskey must remain "in bond" for at least three standard years but in practice it is usually much more than this. It cannot in fact be called space whisky until these three years have passed; before this it is just referred to as spirit.

To facilitate the maturation process, special gravimetric time dilation inducing machinery is used to generate a space-time disparity field. Only the highest quality gravitons are used to ensure the best texture and taste of the blend. During the temporal acceleration period about 2% is lost through tachyonic evaporation for each year in local whiskey space so that about 25% of the contents of a barrel stored for 12 years of local time will be lost. In real time, the process will only take a day.

Ample radiation shielding must be provided to shield the rest of the production facilities from superluminal particle radiation and temporal anomalies, including the distiller's tendency to become their own grandfathers.
