Spuga Cola

It might've been a clever plot to recycle toxic waste. It might've been a conspiracy to poison the peoples of the Milky Way. It might've been a cruel practical joke. Even today, no-one really knows for sure.

Advertised as a "refreshening soft drink" and sold by dealers working on their own, Spuga Cola was far from refreshening or soft - some argue that it was not even an actual drink. The real ingredients of Spuga Cola, or "Spuge" as it was called, are still a mystery to the Galaxy despite several attempts at analyzing them, some by respected scientists.

The stuff itself was black, and while sometimes it was runny like a liquid, it could also be rigid like a jelly. Consuming it usually resulted in various kinds of nausea, indigestion and allergic reactions, and some even reported hallucinations, delirium and addiction as side-effects. Most don't even dare to imagine the possible long-term side effects.

As for how it tasted, those who happened to be unfortunate enough to taste it can only describe it with two words - "unbearably sugary". It is also said the aftertaste could linger on in one's mouth for weeks.

Needless to say, local colonial authorities soon outlawed the selling of the substance.
