Possibly the best to remove all Bacterian presence from this galaxy and possibly remove the whole "Bacterian home galaxy" stuff. Magellanic clouds would be better candidates if they really need another galaxy.

Probably best for the first ones to have territories here.

what??

You can't change something like this, it's everywhere in canon. 100% disagree

Well, canon can always be changed and right now is the time for it to be changed. Mad Gigerdi Jr. is/was pretty important figure in the canon, but he is no more now. Canon can, and should, be changed. This Bacterian thing is just something that me and Dalleer find kinda bad. It just really makes no sense for them to be so far away and somehow use a singularity for travel; I thought we were trying to avoid stuff like that? The closer galaxies, or the Milky itself, are better candidates. And since we're rewriting and generally writing all pre-PS stuff it ain't that hard. You can forget about post-PS stuff since it hasn't happened yet.

the way to change the canon ...

... is to write new stuff, that is, a new story. Then we can debate whether or not that story is logical. The way to change the canon is NOT to change a PSE article without any explanation why.

Furthermore it's really weird that you're simultanously advocating a smaller scale for the universe (Bacterians in the same galaxy) while your next sentence says "the first ones should have territory here". So how did the first ones get from there to here? The same way as the Bacterians I suppose? "I thought we were supposed to avoid stuff like that?" You can't have your cake and eat it too, either the scale of this universe is several galaxies or no external galaxies at all; the Bacterians are "first ones" (which is a babylon 5 thing anyway if you want to get technical) so you're not being consistent here at all. The Bacterians are supposed to be ancient. They're supposed to be completely unknown and alien and from another galaxy. This is how it is. Your "first one" races have no impact to the main story and aren't featured at all, so stop giving some sort of a higher priority to them than the bacterians. This is all!

Well, personally I think that before writing the new story you should first have a good idea how to change the canon and so that we can agree on it. Unless by story you mean only the part that has the changed canon. Otherwise it can be just a waste.

First ones are more technologically advanced; they got faster drives, possibly a gateway-system, which at least was in place during the Lightness war, that can, however, be changed if necessary. And yeah the first ones is a B5 thing and isn't really accurate anyway, I'll see if I can come up with something else.

I guess the Bacterians really need some heavy work on them, currently they just are just involved in wars and that's it. And if they are really ancient shouldn't they be technologically superior? How come both Gigerdians and Hemmoians can beat them so easily? If they are really so ancient and mystic they should be something like that, not just another bully in the galaxy.

And the first ones do have a great impact in a future story. Obviously there are many stories around, as there should be, so they're only involved in one. It would be nice to include the Bacterians more heavily, but right now it's just not possible. There's not enough backstory.

ancient bacterians

The way I see the Bacterians is that they are truly an ancient, vast empire, but they're also stagnant and in decline. The conquest campaigns in the Milky Way may have been some sort of a political stunt for all we know, an attempt to rekindle the glory days of a disintegrating empire. Think the decline of the Roman Empire - technologically superior, vast, old, with vast armies - yet the empire fell.

To the young Milky Way species they initially appeared incomprehensibly powerful with their giant ships and high technology, and the only reason the First Bacterian War didn't result in a genocide was because the Bacterians stopped. They weren't forced to stop, they just did. (yeah yeah, minbari war, whatever.) After that they entered a period of (pretend) peace with the Peace Station Project during which the other younger species advanced considerably and became stronger. It is possible the Bacterians are in technological stasis, with no new innovations taking place (again due to stagnation), which allowed the younger species to reach their level faster than they expected. Like the Second Bacterian War article says, the Bacterians were surprised when they no longer had the upper hand in warfare.

the important thing to figure out is why the bacterians are such bullies and I think there would be some interesting stories to tell here. Court politics, plots, cloak & dagger things like that. the bacterians never explain, that's their thing, they're a very inward society. but something happens underneath the veil. I have a pretty solid storyline explaining the First Bacterian War as a personal vendetta against the Delta Quadrant civilizations by Paavo Bakteeri. as to the second bacterian war, well that's more open to interpretation.

what I'm saying is that technical matters (did they come from another galaxy or not) are completely irrelevant from a storytelling point of view, it's the characaters and plot twists and how the Bacterians are fleshed out that matters

From a storytelling POV it really doesn't matter where they're from, that's more of a background info stuff. Though, like I mentioned in other article, since Namgrom seems to be interested in writing the Bacterians again (and should have some stuff ready already, from what I heard), I think I'll wait and see what ideas he has for the Bacterians.

Oh and they really shouldn't look like Humans, and names like Metallica-Mies really have to go, but I think (and hope) that he has some ideas regarding them.
