Tau Bootis A (also known as Tau Boötis A) is the central sun of the Tau Bootis system. It is a yellow F-class star located 51 light years away from the UCP home system of Sol. The star has a red dwarf companion, Tau Bootis B, which orbits it at an average distance of 245 AU (37 billion km). The orbit takes about 2 000 years to complete.

A peculiar aspect of Tau Bootis is that it is tidally locked to its planet Tau Bootis b; the outer layers rotate around the stellar axis every 3.3 days, which is the time it takes for the planet to complete an orbit.
