The Commander class light cruiser was designed in year 3330 mainly as light battleship that could serve as support ship during engagements. It was also designed to be capable of independent attacks into enemy territory if necessary. They are equipped with experimental cloaking devices that both require a lot of power and provide only long-range cover. The Commander class is more heavily armed than the Tau class, but has no fighter capability which has been considered as the greatest weakness of the class. Currently Commander classes usually serve as support ships for larger capital ships like Gigerdi Mk.II class and Prime class. They are rarely among colonial defense forces, but more often assigned to patrol and reconnaissance duties during times of peace. They can also be found protecting key locations like Gigerdi Prime.

The G.F.S. Q is known to be the best performing Commander class cruiser in the whole Timocracy war, as well as the second Commander class ship to be built.
