Communications officer

In starships with a communications department, the communications officer is head of that department. This officer is responsible for visual and electronic exterior communication systems and the administration of the interior systems supporting them.

Assistants to the communications officer may include the subspace radio officer, signal officer, crypto-security officer, cyberwarfare officer and communications watch officers.

In ships without a communications department, the communications officer reports to the operations officer.
