De Mairan's Nebula

Jump to navigationJump to searchDe Mairan's Nebula (also known as M43 and NGC 1982) is an H II region (emission nebula type) in the Orion Arm of the Milky Way Galaxy. It is part of the Great Orion Nebula, separated from the main nebula by a lane of dust, forming a feature known as the "Fish's Mouth". It is part of the much larger Orion Molecular Cloud Complex.
At the heart of this region is Bond's Star, an unusually bright OB star creating a matter-bound Strömgren sphere.
