G.A.S. Aates was one of the lead ships in the attack against the Timocracy's homeworld. At that time it was commanded by a Gigerdian named Groe Tuds. The Aates destroyed several Timocracy ships, nearly without a scratch.

In the Lightness war, the current captain Troe Murt was ordered to leave the Helion system which it was protecting from Lightness attacks. Murt refused to leave the system because of a predicted Lightness attack. Soon Lightness forces attacked and the Aates, being the only ship in the system, was the only ship to help the planet on its evacuation. The Aates was able to slow down the Lightness ships enough so that all the transports were able to escape. Unfortunately, the Aates was also destroyed in this battle.
