Gateway Device
The Gateway Device, also known as the Orbital Gateway, was a giant exotic particle accelerator located in far orbit of planet Orceron in the First Age - capable of opening a dimensional gateway into the Portal Dimension. This system was used extensively by the United Orcs before the development of starship-based FTL mechanisms to explore and colonize the galaxy at large.
Technology
Ordinary matter common to our Universe cannot pass through the underspatial boundary in any shape or form naturally; the only way to make the transit is to be confined in an artificial interdimensional stasis field. The Gateway Device was capable of producing such fields at a large enough scale to allow starship sized objects to pass through into the dimension beyond.
History
Inception
Project GATEWAY was first proposed on Orceron in 1,xxxx. The Royal Space Administration was heavily involved in the project.
In total, around a thousand starships made the journey through the gate into the great unknown, fostering the first generation of Orceronian colonies in the Galaxy.
Final use
The Gateway Device was used for the last time shortly after the Great Cataclysm of Orceron, when a large number of UO vessels made a jump into the unknown to escape the destruction of their homeworld.
