The Ice Javelin drones are used by the Gigerdi Alliance aboard Valencia Mk.2 and Almasy class ships. They are the first generation tactical battle drones designed by the GA to complement the ships with organic or semi-organic hull designs. The drone bays of these ships have been specifically designed to carry these sorts of Drones. The Ice Javelin Mk. I drones were designed at the same time as the Valencia-desings. They saw combat during the Lightness War, and have thus become the standard drones in the GA starships equipped with drone bays. It can be argued, however, that Drones with better AI protocols and tactics have been developed since - and thus the Mk. I is known as a first generation battle drone only. Despite this drawback, the Mk. I has been extensively mass-produced, and thus remains the most common Drone of its' type in use.

Like other drones of this kind, they are small, fast, expendable and fairly powerless on their own, but when used in large numbers can prove to be an important tactical asset in space combat. The Ice Javelin drones are designed to be extremely compact and to be easily stored into the drone launch bays. Thus the Ice Javelin drones are always delivered into the starships in an "non-retracted" state, in which they are easily stored into the bays - but when they are deployed, the drone flicks itself open and is thus ready for combat.

The tactical attack routines of the Ice Javelin battle drones are based on the onboard AI of the Hemmoian Attack Drone.
