A class of UOSF starships in use before and during the First Bacterian War, the Maximum Carnage class heavy cruiser is designed to combine heavy armor, heavy firepower, and the ability to carry half a wing of drone fighters. The previous mainstay class of cruisers had no ability to carry fighter drones.
These ships are designed to be able to operate independently or as flagships of task forces. These ships have a total crew compliment of 480.
The forty drones normally carried by the Maximum Carnage class heavy cruiser makes its virtually a light carrier in its own right. With the extremely heavy armor, the Maximum Carnage class has the potential to be a dangerous opponent even for a dreadnought. Often these heavy cruisers deploy in pairs.
After the First Bacterian War, most of these old and venerable ships have been kept in commission but have been transferred to backwater UO systems since the Siege of Aldaain.
Drive systems
The Maximum Carnage class cruiser relies on eight heavy plasma thrusters for sublight propulsion and a Plasmasphere drive nacelle for FTL travel.
Weapons loadout
The Maximum Carnage class carries one ultraheavy and one heavy plasma lances, six turreted heavy rail gun mounts, four cruise missile launchers and four turreted anti-matter cannon mounts. For point defense, the heavy cruiser carries sixteen medium laser turrets.
Cargo capacity
Cargo holds are scattered about the ship that allows for carrying up to 2,500 tons of cargo in addition to standard compliment of supplies and ammunition. Each enlisted crew member has a small locker for personal items and uniforms. Ships officers have more space for personal items. Most of the ship's spaces are take up by extra ammunition, armor, troops, weapons, engine, and other equipment.
