V3 Doomsday Fleet

The V3 Doomsday Fleet was a powerful space fleet of the V3 Mobile Space Asset Force, mobilized at the end of the V3 War to deliver a final blow against Aldaain.

Construction

The fleet was mainly prepared at Dertron Starhold, with some components built at Vestallus Shipyards.

Composition

The heart of the fleet was the powerful V3 Flagship, virtually indestructible, with extra-powerful shielding systems and high-quality weapons. The Flagship was always accompanied by V3 Support Ships and the V3 heavy cruiser Implacable. Together, the fleet had enough firepower to glass an entire continent; the Flagship was also equipped with high-yield surface-sweeping missiles and the experimental Planet Eater Array.

Attack plan

The goal of the V3 Doomsday Fleet was to employ the Planet Eater Array against Aldaain, command world of the United Orcs. The fleet would establish a Dimensional Gateway on the edge of the Orbeus 6 system. The Gateway was powered by the V3 Flagship, with the fleet of support ships acting as a focuser array.

The main source of power for the dimensional burst weapon were massive generators located on the surface of Xalan, the V3 homeworld. In a gruesome example of total war, the entire world had been turned into a generator for the terrible weapon, with focusing arrays orbiting the world as satellites.

The Final Defense

The UO mounted a desperate offensive against the Doomsday Fleet. The resulting battle was referred to as the Final Defense of Aldaain.

The Doomsday Fleet was controlled by the flagship, so by destroying it, the United Orcs would disable the whole Doomsday Fleet, or at least throw it into critical disarray. Orcish spies were on board the Flagship, and the United Orcs had placed a cloaked Orcish cruiser in the Doomsday Fleet.

When the Fleet prepared for its final attack, the spies destroyed the Flagship's engine core. All power generators went offline, and the flagship was disabled. The cloaked Orcish cruiser decloaked and started to disable other ships in the Doomsday Fleet with Ion Cannon blasts.

In the end, the Doomsday Fleet was destroyed in the Final Defense of Aldaain and the United Orcs scored one of their greatest victories against the V3.

With the Flagship destroyed, the Dimensional Gateway collapsed, but the burst of energy had already been sent from Xalan through the conduit. This caused a massive feedback burst of disruptive energy to emerge from the Xalan Gateway, overloading the generators and orbital focusers and resulting in the destruction of the entire world. In essence, the V3 Alliance had erased itself from existance.

Although Aldaain was saved, the high-energy transdimensional event caused a cascading failure of subspace communications relays in the thousands of star systems within the UO sphere of influence. Colonies were left in the dark, not knowing whether Aldaain had been destroyed or not. This new dark age became known as the Great Chaos, as the UO splintered into hundreds of independent colonies and coalitions.
