Flashpacks

The Flashpack was a weapon which was manufactured in the Gigerdi Confederation for a short time after it's formation.
The weapon itself was a large circular disk which could be fired from mine bays on capital ships or rigged on missile launchers or specifically installed launcher tubes. In order for the weapon to work, it was supposed to be aimed at the hull of the target (which could be anything from a small transport to a large station) and then launched when lock-on was established. Once the disk attached itself to the hull, it somehow imploded the shields and the hull of the target thus destroying it completely or severely damaging it. The designers of the weapon claimed that once the Flashpack was attached to the target, "the ship would destroy itself from the inside out".
This particular weapon was exported to the Bacterian Empire through unofficial arms deals between the Gigerdi Confederation and the Bacterians. This weapon did not prove to be effective against the Timocracy at all due to their completely new and unknown shield-system: the Flashpacks just harmlessly bounced off the shields of the Timocracy craft.
These weapons were produced in extremely small numbers due to production difficulties in the Gigerdi Confederation, and once the weapon itself proved to be of very little use against the Timocracy, it was quickly forgotten and the remaining orders were cancelled.
