Background
An independent kingdom for the past millennia, isolated from the happenings of the Galaxy by its remote location in the Galactic Outer Rim. Several hundred years ago the monarchy was displaced by a revolutionary collectivist movememnt. It molded political, economic, and military policies around the core ideological objective of eventual unification of the planet under the Worker's Party's control. The Republic's long-range missile development and research into anti-planetary, chemical, and biological weapons and massive conventional armed forces are of major concern to the interstellar community.
The PRPMS government has been accused of serious civil rights violations towards its citizens. Interplanetary probes have uncovered evidence of massive labour camps for political prisoners.

Economy - overview
The PRPMS, one of the Galaxy's most centrally planned and isolated
economies, faces desperate economic conditions. Industrial capital
stock is nearly beyond repair as a result of years of under-
investment and spare parts shortages. Industrial and power output
have declined in parallel. Large-scale military spending eats up
resources needed for investment and civilian consumption. Firm
political control remains the Communist government's overriding
concern, which will constrain any further loosening of economic
regulations.
