The Sovereign class dreadnought was a joint project between the Gigerdi Federation and the United Commonwealth of Planets. The goal was to create even heavier ship than the Prime class heavy cruiser or Lemmoiks class heavy destroyer as neither ship had been powerful enough during the Bacterian encounter. The class was finally finished few years before the Peace Station was finished, in year 3338. There has been some criticism as to whether or not the Sovereign and the Peace class should've been designed so close to each other. However, they were designed with different roles in mind. The Sovereign class was made as a direct replacement for the older, more heavily armed, capital ships and was also meant to be produced much more than the single Peace class. It has become widely used design for both the GF and the UCP.
