First Ones

Also known as the Ancients, the Precursors or First Generation Species, the First Ones are the species that evolved into space-faring civilizations considerably earlier than the contemporary "second" and "third generation" species and expanded into the Milky Way. Due to their head start, their technology and knowledge of the Universe has advanced far beyond that of the rest of the galactic civilizations.

The term has later evolved to specifically refer to the First Ones in the Andromeda Galaxy who founded the Andromeda Alliance and later the First One Alliance, but can also be used in its old meaning.

Additional notes

1. The Bacterians were also intially thought to be First Ones, but were later reclassified as the "first of the second generation." It may be the Amandas and the Third Race are also part of this category and not true First Generation species.
2. A religious cult known as the Cult of the Great Potato believes potatoes to be an ancient First One species, but this is not a scientifically sound theory.
