The term Gigerdian-Bacterian War refers to the brief hostilities that erupted between the Gigerdi Alliance and the Bacterian Empire following the genocidal Bacterian assault against the Daglian homeworld of Daglius.

Background

Main article: Daglian Conflict

Declaration of war

Enraged by the seemingly senseless attack against the Daglians, the Gigerdi Alliance officially declared a war against the Bacterian Empire. In GA space this marked the beginning of the Third Bacterian War, although in the Delta Quadrant this phase of the conflict was specifically known as the "Gigerdian-Bacterian War".

The Bacterian government tried to calm the situation down by claiming that the ship captains responsible for nearly exterminating the Daglian species acted alone and without the Emperor's approval, but the Gigerdians refused to believe this. As some of the Imperial Bacterian Navy had already been destroyed in the Second Bacterian War, the Empire was unable to defend itself against the full force of the Gigerdi Alliance armadas and their worlds were quickly overrun.

Occupation of Bacterius

Bacterius, the Bacterian command world, was bombed, invaded, and occupied by the Gigerdian Armed Forces. The entire Bacterian Empire was declared to be under martial law and all Bacterians were urged to immediately return to Bacterian space. The Gigerdians placed massive occupational forces on all major Bacterian colony worlds, and in months the entire Empire was completely stripped of its former glory, its people servants of the Gigerdi Alliance.

Aftermath

The Bacterian presence in the Milky Way Galaxy never quite recovered from the Gigerdian-Bacterian War. Although the Gigerdian occupation gradually ended later that year, they kept a close watch of the Empire to make sure future conflicts like the Daglian Conflict could be avoided.

However, the extragalactic Bacterians regrouped in the Bacterian Home Galaxy for another surprise attack. The conflict that followed is known as the Third Bacterian War.
